Scar treatment
In this day and age, keloid scars, acne scars and scars related to other skin trauma can be effectively treated with a variety of energy based, topical and injectable treatments. Everyone has different scar and skin types, hence treatment planning and customisaton is essential.
How it works
Acne scar treatment
Acne scars are usually depressed and appear as box car scars, ice-pick scars and rolling scars. Different scar treatments work best on the different types of scars. For instance, the CO2 fractional laser works very well for resurfacing rolling scars. Narrow and deep scars like ice-pick scars and narrow box car scars would respond well to TCA cross or even microneedling with radiofrequency (MRF). Depressed scars tethered down by fibrous scar tissue will benefit from subcision to break those fibres, followed by injection of filler or rejuran S to raise the depressed skin and stimulate the formation of a collagen matrix beneath.
Keloid scars
These are usually raised and will get flatter after corticosteroid injections. Scars with significant skin tension will also benefit from BTX injections.

Important information
-
Scar treatment is usually most effective when at least 2 different treatment modalities are combined.
-
If you still have active acne, it is best to have a treatment plan that places priority on acne management first, followed by scar treatment when the acne is less active. Otherwise, it is akin to doing renovations on a burning house!
