Botolinum Toxin (BTX)
Relaxes muscles, smooths out wrinkles and reduces pore size. It can also be used to reduce the size of bulky muscles, to achieve a slimming effect in the jaw. shoulders, arms and calves.
How it works
BTX has been used for many years as a treatment for wrinkles. It consists of a protein that when injected into muscles, relaxes it and hence helps to reduce wrinkles that often appear when our facial muscles contract.
Common areas to treat include the upper face, such as frown lines in the forehead, crows feet and glabella, which is the area between the eyebrows where the dreaded '11' lines tend to form.
However, BTX is not just used for erasing wrinkles. It can be injected into jaw muscles to give a face slimming effect and reduce teeth-grinding problems by reducing the size of the muscle. The same principle applies to BTX for shoulders, arms and calf muscles.
Other uses of BTX include using alone or mixed into skinboosters to make skin glow and reduce pores. It can also be used to treat sweaty palms and underarms.
Important information
-
The effects of BTX usually takes 2 weeks to show, for larger muscles like jaw, shoulder muscles, it may take up to 4-6 weeks
-
The effects of BTX generally last for 3-6 months. However, it also depends on how actively the muscle is being used. For instance, if you love eating harder or chewier food like steak, nuts etc, your jaw muscles will be 'working out' much more and hence the effect of your jaw BTX may wear off a little faster.
