Dermal fillers
Usually made of hyaluronic acid, fillers are a safe and instant way of plumping up sunken areas of the face to help you regain a youthful appearance. Fillers do not just fill, they also contour and lift sagging skin when strategically placed, giving rise to the term 'liquid facelifts'.
How it works
Dermal fillers are made of hyaluronic acid which is also naturally present in our skin, and will be dissolved by our bodies over time. They can be administered to various areas of the face to sculpt and lift. As we age, we experience facial volume loss due to loss of bone, fat and collagen resulting in a sunken or haggard appearance. Dermal fillers are a safe and effective way to restore this volume and results are immediate.
Common areas to treat include the tear troughs, cheeks, temples, nasolabial folds, lips and chin. I aim for natural results, so the goal of treatment is to look well-rested and refreshed, rather than puffy or overfilled.
Important information
-
Fillers in your face may last an average of 6 months to 2 years, depending on the brand of filler used.
-
Softer fillers such as those used in the lips or eye area may dissolve faster, as compared to firmer fillers like those used in the chin. Individual metabolism also affects the longevity of your results
-
Hyaluronic acid fillers are highly reversible - they can be dissolved on the spot with hyaluronidase enzyme injection
-
Most fillers also contain lignocaine, an anesthetic mixed in. Hence, pain is minimal.
